Sensametrics announced today that the U.S. Commerce Department's Advanced Technology Program (ATP) has awarded the company a grant
to develop a dense peer-to-peer wireless sensor network for monitoring the health of structures that has damage assessment and
decision support capabilities and is able to include emerging chemical and biological sensors. The Advanced Technology Program
(www.atp.nist.gov) managed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, provides cost-shared funding to industry for
high-risk R&D projects with the potential to spark important, broad-based economic benefits for the United States. The awards
are made on the basis of a rigorous peer-reviewed selection process.
"We are extremely pleased to have this opportunity to expand our monitoring technology," said Dr. Garo Kiremidjian, Sensametrics'
president and CEO. "Our selection for an ATP award is an important technology and business validation for our company."
Sensametrics is one of 25 companies nationwide selected for single-company ATP awards in 2004. In addition, there were 7 awards for
joint-venture projects. A total of 870 proposals were received for the 2004 ATP competition.
